Kansas First! Prairie Populism and the Case for an American Regional Revival is the provisional title of the book I am currently writing, due out from ISI Books sometime in 2008, I hope. It is filled with dour pessimism regarding just about everything, and especially about our current prospects for a humane, local, and free society. Part political philosophy, part history of my beloved prairie, and part personal polemic, Kansas First! will nonetheless be my paean to conservative romanticism---the insane hope and adventure of every "outlier in the American Empire," as my friend Bill Kauffman puts it. More to come on this page as it develops. For now, this painting which hung on the wall of my grandparents home in Winchester, Kansas, by Winchester native John Curry, will suffice.
